SE Asia Tsunami Relief Efforts

On December 26, 2004 a massive earthquake struck Indonesia that resulted in a tsunami that killed more than 400,000 people and left more than 5.5 million people homeless in 11 nations. The people of Word of Grace responded to this tragedy by contributing more than $54,000 to relief and reconstruction efforts.

While 11 nations were affected by the Tsunami, Indonesia was the hardest hit in terms of loss of life and physical damage. As a result, most of our aid went to Indonesia.

Through our ministry partners, Word of Grace was able to invest in the following:
$6,100 to World Relief for the victims of the Tsunami and earthquake in Sri Lanka and India.
$10,000 to Indopartners for immediate relief supplies in Indonesia, including:
- 5,000 blankets
- medicine, food and water
- 10 tons of rice
- used clothing
$1,000 to Sowers International for relief work in Thailand.
$10,000 to IndoPartners to build a community center in Aceh province of Indonesia.
$12,500 to Food for the Hungry for school supplies and uniforms to enable 600 children to attend school for one year. The parents of these children were either killed in the tsunami or have lost everything and do not have money to send their children to school.
$12,000 to World Relief to build homes for tsunami victims in Indonesia.
